Thanks for the comments!

@Openworld

I see the Net-Map toolbox as a great offline low-tech tool, very useful to set up social network analysis interviews where this kind of data can't be retrieved with software.

An integration between Net-Map and Twitter would be a different step: Twitter is very limited for interviews and in order to make a mashup with the Twitter API, we should transform first the Net-Map toolbox in a software application.

At the moment you can find a lot of examples of projects using the Twitter API in order to visualize social networks on Twitter:

http://www.breakingpointsystems.com/community/blog/visualizing-the-twitter-social-network
http://flowingdata.com/2008/03/12/17-ways-to-visualize-the-twitter-universe/
http://ebiquity.umbc.edu/blogger/2007/04/19/twitter-social-network-analysis/
http://laikaspoetnik.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/visualization-of-twitter-networks/
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/opensource/library/os-socialtools/index.html
http://mediaczar.com/blog/2008/12/some-twitter-social-network-analysis/
http://www.slideshare.net/walterra12/visualizing-conversations-in-twitter

And these two applications:

http://twitter-friends.com/
http://twitter.mailana.com/

@Eva Schiffer

Thank you for publishing the Net-Map toolbox! :-)
Actually, I've never tried it, but Net-Map is what I was waiting for, the bridge between Social Network Analysis theories and books, and actually developing interviews on the field in an easy way.
I look forward testing it soon, I will let you know about it.

At the moment, I'm working on a social network analysis and open source project, it's in an early stage but you will know something more about it soon.

Dear Massimo,
Thanks for introducing Net-Map here. Great that you give it enough room to actually enable people to use it after reading this post. Have you actually tried it? I am always looking for new case studies to introduce on my blog. So if you do, please contact me.

Dear Mark,
I'm pretty old-school (have a twitter account but never use it...), and think for many scenarios you just cannot beat the effect of having real THINGS to move around and play with - but I have been thinking about a number of online or other computerized applications.

So far I'm looking at a combination of social network visualization software (such as Visualyzer) and online facilitation tools (such as eluminate) to allow people from all over the world to draw a Net-Map online together. What do you have in mind when you talk about combining it with Twitter tools? And: What are resilient communities?
Cheers

Good insights here. Is anyone considering a mashup with existing Twitter analytic tools (e.g. Twitter Analyzer) or the Twitter API itself to implement the net-map toolbox ideas here?

If so, we'd love to explore how it could be used in resilient communities.

Best,
Mark Frazier
